Xiaomi Mi 7 to Sport Face Unlock Technology, Ditch Fingerprint Sensor

Mi 7, 2018 flagship Xiaomi smartphone, may become among the first Android handsets to ditch the fingerprint sensor entirely in favour of facial recognition. New reports say the fingerprint sensor in the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7 will give way to face unlock technology, similar to Apple's phasing out of the Touch ID sensor to make way for its new Face ID authentication system on the iPhone X.

This new report contradicts earlier rumours about Xiaomi using an under-display fingerprint sensor to minimise the bezels on the device. The company was expected to use Synaptics' recently announced under-display fingerprint sensor.
Display fingerprint sensor were supported by renders published by GizChina. The renders revealed both the front and back of the device showing features like dual cameras and an 18:9 display with minimal bezels. The edge-to-edge bezel-less display makes the device look similar to the Mi Mix 2.

Mi 7 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. But not much is known about the device yet.upcoming in-display fingerprint sensor is indicative of Xiaomi ditching the technology completely. Vivo and Huawei are rumoured to use it in their upcoming products.

A few smartphones, including the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, and Honor View 10 have already showed up with facial recognition, with a lot more expected to have the feature in 2018. Unlike Apple's iPhone X, all of these Android smartphones are expected to have both fingerprint sensors and 3D face sensors.

Earlier this year, Qualcomm and Vivo had demonstrated the in-display fingerprint sensor – even though the demonstration was on a prototype device, the technology seemed impressive, albeit a little slow. The slow response times could have pushed Xiaomi to change its plans and ditch the fingerprint sensor for its next flagship device, taking the iPhone X route.

Announce for MediaTek, Qualcomm Supported to Android Oreo (Go edition)

Google announcing the launch of Android Oreo (Go edition), two of the world's biggest mobile processor makers - MediaTek and Qualcomm - have announced support for the new operating system that was launched at an event in New Delhi on Tuesday.

MediaTek, in a statement on Thursday, said that it will be an SoC partner for bringing Android Oreo (Go edition) to smartphone makers and will offer support on Android devices with 512MB to 1GB of RAM. Go edition is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and this is one of the rare instances when support from SoC makers is available within a short span of the operating system's launch.
Google announced Android Oreo (Go edition) in India earlier this week. It is said to become available in the next few months with developers getting access in the latest Android 8.1 Oreo update. Google claims that devices running Android Oreo (Go edition) will have an average 15 percent faster app startup time and preloaded apps will take almost 50 percent less space on the internal storage drive.

Qualcomm, the other major mobile processor maker, also announced full support for bringing Android Oreo (Go edition) to low-RAM smartphones. The manufacturer states that it will be working closely with Google to offer an optimised experience on smartphones with a memory of 1GB or less. Qualcomm claims that this partnership will help leverage growth for both brands in emerging markets from South Asia and Africa.

Android Oreo (Go edition) is expected to be available running on devices based on Snapdragon mobile platforms in early 2018. Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphones powered by MediaTek will be available in the global market by Q1, 2018

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) leak, Infinity Display, dual selfie cameras and slim bezels

Samsung will soon be updating its Galaxy A series smartphones. The lineup is expected to consist of the 2018 iteration of the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7. Samsung is also rumored to launch the Galaxy A8 (2018), which would be the high-end model in the series. The smartphone’s alleged design has been leaked now which shows a Galaxy S8-like Infinity Display.

Galaxy A8 (2018) has been leaked in pictures which show off a thin-bezel display. This means, that the smartphone will most likely ship with a near edge-to-edge Infinity screen much like this year's flagship phones Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, and also the Galaxy Note 8.

This compared to the phone's successor is much improved and enhanced in terms of design. The Samsung touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels.

Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018), the smartphones are expected to feature a 5.5-inch and 6-inch full HD Infinity display, respectively. The smartphones could be powered by in-house Exynos 7885 SoC or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 paired with 4GB of RAM.

The smartphone has very thin bezels on top and bottom and almost none on the sides. The display also appears to be curved like the Galaxy S8. What’s striking is the dual-camera setup located on the top chin of the smartphone. Samsung only recently introduced the dual-camera setup on the Galaxy Note 8, and a dual-selfie camera module seems very unlikely.
Connectivity, the smartphones are so far rumored to feature a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB Type-C port. Going by Samsung’s schedule, the 2018 Galaxy A series should launch by December or the beginning of 2018.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s Image Leaks, Shows an iPhone X-Like Notch

Xiaomi has never shied away from copying Apple, especially when it comes to design. Last year's original Mi Mix was a substantial departure from the company's previous phones, and its edge-to-edge screen made headlines worldwide. Here are a year later, and bezel-less phones are a bit more common now, with the iPhone X gaining the most attention.

All rumours and leaks, we advise readers to take the above information about the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s with a pinch of salt, as Xiaomi has yet to make any announcements about its new flagship smartphone and the credibility of the sources cannot be independently verified.

Xiaomi just released the Mi Mix 2, with roughly the same design as last year's model, and is a pretty great device. But it looks like another variation could be in the works, one that looks far more like an iPhone X.

Chinese Twitter equivalent Weibo has some images purportedly claiming to show the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s which can be expected to be an upgrade of some sort to the current Mi MIX 2 smartphone. The shared images show the alleged handset in the wild and tip a notch at the top of the handset - just like the infamous notch on the iPhone X.

The iPhone X's notch is filled with sensors for face recognition, along with a front-facing camera. Pumping up the exposure on one of the pictures seems to indicate that the Mix 2s' notch has a camera, an earpiece speaker, and a possibly an ambient light sensor.
Xiaomi currently on sale in some markets including India. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 price in India is Rs. 35,999. One of the biggest highlights of the Mi MIX 2 is its 5.99-inch full-HD (1080x2160 pixels) 18:9 display with a pixel density of 403ppi and a DCI-P3 colour gamut.

iPhone X release date, price, features and More

The good news is... this is the only bad news. Apple claims the iPhone X, which is pronounced 'iPhone 10', is worth your money and the extra wait time. This is the 10th anniversary iPhone and it's making big changes for 2017. The iPhone X wasn't the only smartphone announced by Apple CEO Tim Cook on September 12. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were unveiled at the Steve Jobs Theater on Apple's new campus, too.

iPhone X specifications, features

The first thing you notice on the iPhone X is a near bezel-less display on the front side. It is larger than ever at 5.8-inch. There is a notch on the top, but the company has pushed the screen resolution to 1125x2436 pixels, more than any previous generation iPhone models, and calls it the Super Retina HD Display.

The iPhone X is the future of smartphones, the executives said. Apple is doing away with the Touch ID, the fingerprint scanner embedded with Home Button that it introduced with iPhone 5s model. The iPhone X hosts a range of sensors including flood illuminator, infrared camera, front camera, and dot projector to allow customers to unlock the iPhone X by just looking at it - a system called Face ID.

Face ID is faster and more secure than the Touch ID, thanks to specialised hardware and algorithm driving that hardware. "The facial recognition grows with time. It learns your face and adapts to your face" Phil Schiller, Apple VP of Worldwide Marketing said. "It works in day, it works in night." While Touch ID could be tricked one in 50,000 times, Apple said, Face ID sees one error in one million times, citing its own internal data. Face ID will work with third-party apps as well, Schiller said.

iPhone X features a duo of 12-megapixel rear cameras, that are larger (f/1.8 and f/2.4 apertures), and faster. It has deeper pixels, quad-LED True Tone flash, Schiller said. For the 7-megapixel selfie camera, the company says it is bringing Portrait mode feature, which it introduced with the iPhone 7 Plus last year.

What iPhone X colors will you be able to get on day one? Space Gray and Silver will be the only two options available. No red, gold, rose gold or that rumored blush gold option this time around, which is disappointing.

iPhone X price into perspective, it doesn't cost much more than a 4.7-inch iPhone 8, which has a screen that's one inch smaller and received a basic specs boost, wireless charging, and a similar glass design. That extra $300 over the course of 24 months is only an additional $3 each week.

List of devices Android Oreo update in India

Google yesterday announced the next version of Android and as expected, it was named as Oreo. Now, one thing that many people and enthusiasts will be thinking is whether their device will be updated to Android Oreo or not. It’s always a little difficult to track what companies say regarding updates.

Google

Starting off with Google, the Android-maker has revealed that it will be updating the Pixel phones and the Nexus 6P, 5X and the Nexus Player to Android 8.0 Oreo. For the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, the Oreo update could be the last major OS update, but it is possible that Google may try to leverage Project Treble and continue delivering major updates to those devices.

  •  Pixel , Pixel XL  , Nexus 5X  , Nexus 6P  , Nexus Player

Samsung

Samsung has a huge number of devices at any given point of time. The Korean giant releases several devices every few months, so it can get pretty confusing to keep a track of which devices are most likely to get the official Oreo update.

The Samsung Oreo update rollout will start with the current flagships and then trickle down to other devices based on their age.

Motorola

Motorola’s Moto brand of smartphones portfolio has expanded drastically in the last year or so. The company has smartphones in the high-end, mid-range, budget segment as well as the entry level. Even though Motorola uses stock Android on its phones, it may take a while for the update to hit your device.

OnePlus

OnePlus does not have too many devices to bother about. The company has already confirmed that the current flagship, OnePlus 5, as well as the previous flagships, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.

Apple just got the green light to test 5G internet for future iPhones

The future of mobile technologies inches ever closer as Apple received the go-ahead to test out 5G wireless broadband connectivity.

Granted by the FCC just a few months after applying for a license, Apple has been granted permission to conduct trials with 5G millimeter wave technology on 28 GHz and 39 GHz frequency bands.

The move comes shortly after the regulatory agency opened up the commercial sale of certain 5G bands, with US mobile carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, Sprintand T-Mobile now making plans of their own to offer consumer-wide 5G within the next two years.

The mobile cart before the 5G horse

5G as a wireless standard is still a work in progress, with experts generally agreeing that the next-generation tech won't hit the mainstream until around 2020.

Apple is exploring the millimeter wave band for 5G tests is interesting though, given that recent 5G announcements from Sprint and T-Mobile have both shied away from the high-frequency bands that Apple is testing.

This can lead the term "5G" to be used loosely this early in the game unveiled its 5G Evolution service this spring, which turned out to be just really fast 4G.

Engineering data relevant to the operation of devices on wireless carriers’ future 5G networks.” In other words, to start preparing for the eventual 5G iPhone that will no doubt exist one day.

Apple has no issue taking its sweet time, however, meaning it could still be years before we can reasonably expect a 5G-compatible iPhone to hit the market.

Though the next-gen service will likely skip the likes of, say, the upcoming iPhone 8, we imagine Apple doesn't intend to get left behind on the next big thing in the world of mobile technology.
